Kalachakra Dasha is one of the most intricate systems described by Parashara, who ranked it very highly. Instead of the whole nakshatra, it works from the Moon's pada (quarter), and each of the 108 padas starts its own fixed sequence of nine signs, running either forward (Savya) or backward (Apasavya).
Working out Kalachakra by hand is notoriously difficult. The result is then shared across that pada's nine signs using each sign's Kalachakra years, such as 21 for Cancer and 4 for Capricorn.

Worked Example
Ashwini pada 1 runs Aries through Sagittarius with a Paramayus of 7 + 16 + 9 + 21 + 5 + 9 + 16 + 7 + 10 = 100 years. If a quarter of the pada had passed at birth, 25 years are elapsed. Aries (7) and Taurus (16) use 23 of them, so birth falls in the Gemini period with 7 of its 9 years still to run.
