What Is Yogini Dasha Calculator?

Yogini Dasha is a short, fast-moving dasha system linked to the eight Yoginis, each paired with a planet: Mangala (Moon), Pingala (Sun), Dhanya (Jupiter), Bhramari (Mars), Bhadrika (Mercury), Ulka (Saturn), Siddha (Venus) and Sankata (Rahu). The full cycle takes only 36 years, so most people go through it two or three times in a lifetime.

Many astrologers, especially in North India, use Yogini Dasha to confirm what Vimshottari suggests. When both systems agree on a favourable or challenging stretch, the reading is more reliable. A Yogini Dasha Calculator applies the starting-Yogini rule for you and lists each period in order.

THE CALCULATION

Yogini Dasha Calculator Formula

Starting Yogini = Remainder of (Birth Nakshatra Number + 3) ÷ 8

The Yogini formula adds 3 to your birth nakshatra number (Ashwini = 1) and divides by 8. The remainder shows which Yogini starts the sequence, from 1 for Mangala up to 7 for Siddha, with a remainder of 0 pointing to Sankata. From there each Yogini runs in turn for 1 to 8 years, adding up to 36.

How to Use the Yogini Dasha Calculator

Enter your birth date, time and place and generate your report. The Yogini Dasha Calculator finds your birth nakshatra, works out your starting Yogini and lists all eight Yogini periods across the 36-year cycle.

  1. Enter your name, gender and date of birth.
  2. Add your birth time and birthplace so the Moon's nakshatra can be found accurately.
  3. Click "Reveal My Yogini Dasha".
  4. Note your starting Yogini and how much of it remained at birth.
  5. Find the Yogini running today and its end date.
  6. Compare the Yogini period with your Vimshottari dasha for confirmation.

Tip: Because the cycle repeats every 36 years, look at what happened the last time the same Yogini ran. The same themes often come back.

METHOD & INPUTS

How the Yogini Dasha Calculator Works

The calculator adds 3 to your birth nakshatra number, divides by 8 and uses the remainder to pick the first Yogini. It then shortens that first period by the part of the nakshatra already crossed at birth, and runs the remaining Yoginis in fixed order for 1 to 8 years each.

What the Calculator Needs

  • Birth nakshatra number (Ashwini = 1 to Revati = 27)
  • The Moon's position within that nakshatra, for the opening balance
  • The fixed Yogini sequence and years

Formulas Used

Starting Yogini
Remainder of (Nakshatra Number + 3) ÷ 8; remainder 0 = Sankata
Yogini years
Mangala 1 · Pingala 2 · Dhanya 3 · Bhramari 4 · Bhadrika 5 · Ulka 6 · Siddha 7 · Sankata 8
Opening balance
Balance = (Unelapsed Arc ÷ 13°20′) × Starting Yogini's Years

Worked Example

Rohini is nakshatra 4. (4 + 3) ÷ 8 leaves a remainder of 7, so life begins in Siddha (Venus, 7 years). If the Moon was halfway through Rohini, 3.5 years of Siddha remain, followed by Sankata (8), Mangala (1), Pingala (2) and so on.

What Affects the Result

  • Accurate birth time, especially when the Moon is near a nakshatra boundary
  • Ayanamsa, which affects the Moon's sidereal nakshatra
  • The Yogini's planetary lord and its strength in your birth chart
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yogini Dasha Calculator FAQs and Common Questions

What is Yogini Dasha?

Yogini Dasha is a 36-year nakshatra-based dasha system of eight Yoginis, each linked to a planet: Mangala, Pingala, Dhanya, Bhramari, Bhadrika, Ulka, Siddha and Sankata.

How do I calculate my Yogini Dasha?

Add 3 to your birth nakshatra number and divide by 8. The remainder shows your starting Yogini (1 = Mangala through 7 = Siddha, 0 = Sankata), and the remaining Yoginis follow in order.

Which Yogini Dasha is good and which is bad?

Siddha, Dhanya and Mangala are traditionally seen as favourable, while Sankata and Ulka are considered challenging. Actual results depend on the ruling planet's placement in your chart.

How accurate is Yogini Dasha compared with Vimshottari?

Yogini Dasha is best used as a confirming system. Its short cycle makes it useful for cross-checking timing, but most astrologers keep Vimshottari as the primary framework.

Does Yogini Dasha have sub-periods?

Yes. Each Yogini period can be divided into eight Antardashas in proportion to the Yogini years, using the same method as the main cycle.
