What Is Dasha Lord Calculator?
The dasha lord is the planet whose period you are living through right now. It is the first thing an astrologer checks in any reading, because the dasha lord's placement, strength and house rulership shape almost everything that happens in that period.

Dasha Lord Calculator Formula
Birth Dasha Lord = Vimshottari Sequence[(Nakshatra Number − 1) mod 9], where Nakshatra Number = ⌊Moon° ÷ 13°20′⌋ + 1 The dasha lord formula divides the Moon's sidereal longitude by 13°20′ to find the birth nakshatra, then maps that nakshatra onto the nine-planet Vimshottari order, which repeats three times across the 27 nakshatras. Ashwini, Magha and Mula all start with Ketu, for example, and Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha with Venus.

How the Dasha Lord Calculator Works
The calculator divides the Moon's sidereal longitude by 13°20′ to find your birth nakshatra, maps that nakshatra onto the nine-planet Vimshottari sequence to get the first dasha lord, and then moves forward through the sequence to today's date.

Worked Example
A Moon at 100° sidereal gives 100 ÷ 13.333 = 7.5, so n = 8 (Pushya). (8 − 1) mod 9 = 7, which is Saturn, so life begins in Saturn Mahadasha, followed by Mercury, Ketu, Venus and the rest.

Which planet rules my birth nakshatra?
Each nakshatra has one of nine lords repeating in a fixed cycle. Ashwini, Magha and Mula are ruled by Ketu; Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha by Venus; and so on through Mercury.
Is the dasha lord the same as the Ascendant lord?
No. The Ascendant lord is fixed for life, while the dasha lord changes as each Mahadasha ends, every 6 to 20 years.
Can I have two dasha lords at the same time?
Yes. At any moment there is a Mahadasha lord and an Antardasha lord, and astrologers read them together.
